Thierry Has Wings

July 23rd, 2010

In his first game since signing on with the New York Red Bull, Thierry Henry did not fail to disappoint. In the 25th’ min he took a nice cross from Joel Lindpere (who did all the work to bring the ball down the left side) and was able to finish into the far side of the net. This goal will help ease the pressure for Henry in NY. Tottenham still went on to win 2-1. Dually noted, Henry took the PATH train from NYC into Harrison to arrive at the game. Few more goals and Americans may start to recognize him!

Stay Classy Spain

July 14th, 2010

Video, found on WhoAteAllThePies, shows how classy Spain is. Let’s just spit on public officials .. although I guess some could make an argument against Lebron now.

“The Decision” Game

July 8th, 2010

So for the many cities who will live with the disappointment of no King James, here is a little way to get through the hour long special courtesy of Scott Bolohan at ChicagoNow.com   King James Decision ’10 Drinking Game

Bienvenido A Miami!

July 7th, 2010

Sources this morning are advising that Bosh and Wade are going to the Heat.  Wade never looked like he was leaving except for a few days where Chi-Town held his interest.  Bosh would have gone anywhere with Lebron except he can’t go to NY now and refused to go to Cle (who could blame him).  Still amazing that Bosh can get a max contract with minimal attributes.  He will great with another All-World player but still don’t think he’s 5 year Max money.  Also to be seen whether or not he sticks by his word in getting Toronto a Sign and Trade but it seems that isn’t likely to happen as the Raptors have yet to hear any word from the Big Man.

LBJ’s One-Hour Special

July 6th, 2010

Before any other major announcement’s, Lebron decided to join Twitter (@KingJames) by the encouragement of Chris Paul (and probably some healthy research by Lebron’s marketing team).  In just over 10 hours he has accumulated nearly 180,000 followers and has already been registered as legit.  This must of broke some records for Twitter adds.  Besides his new Twitter Account, Lebron has announced a one-hour special on thursday to put to rest where he is going (gut feeling on new reports, Cavs are in front with Nets as an underdog).  Now, I understand this is probably the biggest Free Agency period in any sport in any era but this has become outrageous.  It is cool that the reasoning for it all is to sell ad space (which ESPN has apparently agreed too) to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club.  I’m down with that, but Lebron is big enough that he can do it without the hoopla, and most people know to not really tune in until 9:45 to find out where he’s going.

The only way I would be extremely stoked to see this is if they lined up each of Wade, Bosh and Lebron (throw in Boozer or Lee if so desired) and have them each announce where they will go over the hour.  I know thats nearly impossible with sign and trade deals and other teams making bigger pitches as each one becomes unavailable, but a full one time show with all big stars at once would be cool.  Otherwise, I may just keep it running in the background until Lebron shows up with a certain Jersey or Cap in hand.  At least we can stop refreshing websites until thursday.

The Future of American Soccer?

July 6th, 2010

After being ousted by Spain in the Round of 16.  Ronaldo came state side to see his new born son.  Looks like we only have to wait 20 more years to have a decent forward.  Let’s hope this kid can flop and cry half as well as his father.

In an online post, Ronaldo wrote “It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.” Rumors are circulating that Cristiano paid a surrogate to have his baby, but it will be raised by his mother and sisters. Seems odd. Unfortunately they are working on the paper work to move his son to Portugal meaning no love for the USMNT. Maybe next time.

A’mare New York Bound

July 2nd, 2010

Based on a new post by Rotoworld, it seems that Stoudemire has stopped negotiating with the Suns.  I think most of new he wouldn’t be back in Phoenix, but reports seem to lead that A’mare could be the first to sign, heading to NY and reuniting with D’antoni in the Garden.  Fingers crossed.

Nets Making Statement in Manhattan

July 1st, 2010

It seems that Jay-Z and new owner Mikhail Prokhorov are attempting to stake their claim in NYC.    This new billboard now sits, over looking the Garden.  Walsh and Dolan better watch out.  If the Knicks fail in this year’s Free Agent Market, Prokohorov and the ‘Blueprint’ could start stealing market share in the metropolitan area.

Free Agent Frenzy!

July 1st, 2010

As many of you know, the gun went off on NBA Free Agency approx. 30 mins ago. As we are attempting to roll into new formats here at WaiveRiders I decided to give you a quick list on who I think may end up where:

Wade – Miami
Bosh – Miami
Dirk – Chicago
A’mare – NYK
D. Lee – Nets (although a sign and trade to Phoenix for a certain PG, not ridiculous)
Pierce – Nets (Just a gut feeling he leaves Boston)
Allen – NYK
LBJ – NYK

Crazy or not, here are my hits. We’ll keep the NBA FA Market going through out the summer.

Green’s Gaffe

June 16th, 2010

In the highly anticipated first match between USA and England, one major error leads to a much need point for USA in Group C. Robert Green’s lapse may have cost him another minute in the 2010 World Cup. Throw in Slovenia’s 3 points in their first match against Algeria and the two favorites are looking up at an underdog. Here’s a lego re-enactment of Green’s Gaffe (follow the links to see the actual screw up).
